Cranleigh U15 Tigers 0 v 9 Dorkinian U15 Yellows
18/01/2025
After a tough first half of the season (one win out of twelve) in a seeding league, the U15 Yellows were optimistic about their chances in the new SSYFL Division 2 having built their team, skills and resilience over the previous four months. Under the management of Alan Mills they had the rare luxury of four subs, one of whom (George) was making his footballing debut.
The team started brightly with two shots on target in the opening minutes and before long were one nil up courtesy of Noah (the team’s top goal scorer). Several goals followed - two more for Noah, one each for Reece, Leo and Alexander - as the opposition struggled to contain the attacking play and fluid passing. Goalkeeper Bertie was tested before half time and made a couple of strong saves to keep the score at 0-6 going into the break.
Solid central defence from Oscar and Luca supported by rotating full backs Callen, Gabriel, Aran and George - most of whom are new to football this year - meant that the Tigers rarely tested the keeper in the second half. Their keeper, however, made several excellent saves as the Yellows peppered the goal with shot after shot. A second half brace from Will (complete with jubilant knee slide celebration) and an excellent header by Michel from a super corner by Leon. The result was never in doubt.
Manager Alan said, “it was satisfying to see the lads put all the training into practice: they were organised and confident plus the half time snacks were the best of the season!” Player of the Match went to Noah for his first half hat trick (and assists for several of the other goals) - expecting big money offers for him in the January transfer window.
