Dorkinian 1st XI 3 v 1 Frimley Green
Meadowbank Stadium 08/01/25
On a bitterly cold Wednesday night, Dorkinians welcomed high-flying Frimley Green, chasing promotion to Step 5, to Meadowbank Stadium for a thrilling last-16 clash in the Surrey County Cup. Over 100 spectators, including youth team mascots, turned out in the snow to witness the action. Adding to the evening's charm was Dorkinians manager Chris Stone, who baffled and amused the crowd by braving the sub-zero temperatures in shorts.
Dorkinians delivered their best performance of the season, outclassing their opponents with a blend of intensity, grit, and quality. Central to their dominance was the midfield trio of Rawson, Walton, and G Warne, with G Warne earning a well-deserved Man of the Match accolade for his tireless effort and dominance.
The first-half goals showcased Dorkinians’ attacking prowess. The excellent Robinson opened the scoring, finishing after a mesmerizing solo run, before again outfoxing his marker to set up Sears-Black, who calmly finished to make it 2-0 before the break. By halftime, Dorkinians were in control but knew the game was far from over.
The second half saw the match's standout moment: Rawson, spotting the keeper off his line, audaciously scored from within his own half—a remarkable goal that was even sweeter given his earlier near-miss, when a similar effort rattled the crossbar. The strike sealed the victory and demonstrated the confidence and flair Dorkinians displayed throughout.
With the result secure, Dorkinians managed the game expertly, with pacey substitutions adding fresh energy to trouble the Frimley Green defence further. Frimley grabbed a consolation goal with the final kick of the game, though it did little to dampen the outstanding performance of the Dorkinians backline, which had been resolute all evening.
A nod of respect goes to Frimley Green, who played the game in excellent spirit. Dorkinians wish them the best of luck for the rest of their season.
