Late Drama Seals 1s Spot in London Old Boys Cup Final

Dorkinian 1st XI 5 v 2 Old Salvatorians (AET)
Pixham Lane, 22/02/25

Dorkinians 1st XI secured their spot in the final of the London Old Boys Senior Cup with a victory over Old Salvatorians at Fortress Pixham Lane. Andy Sears-Black opened the scoring early with a smart acrobatic finish following a dangerous long throw from Jack Wisbey. Salvos then grew into the game, beginning to get a foothold and saw a string of dangerous chances stopped only by a succession of smart and enormously impressive saves from goalkeeper Henry Warne. Salvos finally penetrated the Dorks defence with a piercing header from a corner, before they struck again with a 35 yard screamer to take the lead.

Dorks mounted pressure regaining positive possession higher up the pitch but looked increasingly as if they may exit the competition in the semi-final stage for the second year in a row. However, in the 90+2nd minute they found their equaliser following fantastic work from first Dan Rawson to keep the move alive and then Charlie Kenway who delivered a pinpoint cross to allow George Warne to sweep home - much to the elation of the 50+ Dorkinians supporters lining the touchline.

The late equaliser proved to be the undoing of Salvos, whose enormous defensive efforts to negate Dorks had taken their toll. Extra-time proved a completely different contest, as the waning Salvos squad couldn’t contain the surges of Dorks attacks. Sears-Black added two to complete a wonderful hatrick, while Hawkins converted late on to fully secure safe passage to the final. The celebrations were jubilant, as the full squad enjoyed the alignment of the victory with goalkeeper Henry Warnes 30th birthday - a day and night to remember for a long time.

Dorkinians will face Enfield Old Grammarians in the final on April 5th, hosted at Old Paulines FC in Thames Ditton. They will be looking to go one better than their previous runners-up finishes in the two cup final visits in this competition in both the 2017/18 and 2022/23 seasons.
