Enfield Old Grammarians 1 v 0 Dorkinian 1st XI
Colets, 05/04/2025
The Yellow and Green army descended on Old Paulines FC this weekend as Dorkinians First Team took on Enfield Old Grammarians in the final of the London Old Boys Senior Cup. From the first whistle, EOG made their intentions clear flying out of the traps with a high tempo and press. The first ten minutes were frantic, with the Dorks side forced to negate the dangerous Enfield attacking unit. The Dorkinians defence stood firm, managing to overcome this initial barrage and settle into the game. Once a foothold was gained a couple of chances were fashioned. First Walton went close, pressing and forcing a mistake that saw him put through, only to see his chipped effort collected by the keeper. Robinson was next, with a typically tricky run and beautiful piece of skill almost unlocking the opener, only to be kept out again by Enfields keeper.
It was EOG who took the lead however. A dangerous attack was half-cleared before a cross carried by the wind took itself onto the crossbar, falling fortuitously to the Enfield Captain to bundle home from close range. Dorkinians settled following the goal, but the game continued in its scrappy fashion until half-time. The second period followed a similar trend, with EOG mounting a series of dangerous passages, forcing some Dorkinians rearguard action. As time went on, EOG slowly retreated, allowing Dorks to begin to gain concerted possession higher up the pitch. Fewer clear-cut chances were made however as the game slowed and quality dropped. Dorks threw everything they could through a series of set pieces but Enfield came out on top in the end, keeping their sheets clean and ultimately taking the home the cup.
Congratulations Enfield Old Grammarians, well played. Disappointment for the first team squad but another proud day for the club with over 100 supporters lining the sidelines. The first team return to league action next Saturday back at Fortress Pixham, hosting league leaders Honourable Artillery Company in a must-win fixture.
