Horsell U9 Martians v Dorkinian U9 Greens

Dorkinian Greens continued their recent good form and travelled away to play Horsell Martians for the first time. It is the first time that the Greens had played against Horsell and the boys were very excited. It was particularly nice to play in the sun for the first time in a long time.

The Greens started strongly, and the game quickly settled into a familiar pattern of patient build up and intelligent use of the ball by the Greens, with the team retaining the ball very well. Horsell were very, very quick in transition and direct in their play which meant that the defensive group of Harry, Oliver and Jamie had to keep focussed throughout and they did so very well. Sam’s ability to cover from his position in centre midfield was also important for our defensive shape.

Key to the Greens positive play was the commitment to play from the back. Rhys continued his exceptional form in goal (playing the whole game in goal this week due to Max being unavailable). As well was making several confident saves, Rhys’ use of the ball was key to our play, together with the positions that Sam (in centre midfield) and the defensive trio of Harry, Oliver and Jamie consistently took up. Not once did Rhys play long, which is a great sign of a commitment to using the ball!

Louis continued his exceptional start in the famous yellow & green of Dorkinians and showed great composure to score the first goal (making it three goals in his first two starts). Alexander scored the second of the game and linked up very well throughout with Dom, George and Louis. George scored the third of the game, following good work from Alex on the right. We created a number of additional chances, with Dom coming close on a couple of occasions, including one opportunity following excellent centre forward/hold up play from George, which involved a great piece of skill and cross which was agonisingly outside of Dom’s reach.

The opposition were particularly complementary of how we played, which was lovely to hear and I was particularly proud of the way that Jamie and Oliver prioritised checking on an injured opposition player at a crunch point in the second half. Great football attitude/spirit!
