From Nervy to Nimble: 7s Bounce Back with Thrilling Win

Old Sedcopians 3rd XI 2 - 5 Dorkinian 7th XI
08/02/2025

After a few draws and a loss, the 7s were itching for a win in the New Year. A long drive across to Sidcup would hopefully deliver. The game started brilliantly from the 7's, back to a full-strength squad, and bolstered from a few players from the 5's and 8's. We started by playing calm, free-flowing football and took advantage of the space on the 3G pitch.

The 7s took an impressive two-nil lead after a strong header from Connor on the end of a pinpoint cross from Toby from the right. Followed up by a penalty scored by Bart, in which the keeper went the right way but the ball managed to sneak in.

In a very short space of time, two-nil became two all. Still recovering the ball out of the net for the first goal, I turn around and it's practically a penalty against us already. Giving the striker the old shoot right eyes, I was just out of reach to save the pen as they drew level. Some magic was needed to lift the 7s mood that had turned nervy and had grown quiet. However, just before half time, Aaron strikes the ball outside of the box and top bins. A great hit is an understatement, the keeper didn't even move. Three-two.

The half-time talk upped our spirits, and we ran the second half with ease, giving us a chance to really enjoy the game and play some great passing football. The fourth goal came from a corner break from us. Myself, to Bart to Conner to goal. Then Bart makes it five-two close after with a one-on-one past the keeper. Sedcopians tried their best to get a goal back, but with brilliant defending from our back 5, nothing was getting through. Apart from one that Lucas let go over him and I made a last-ditch reaction save to. I thanked him for it afterwards, as I was getting pretty cold at that point.

It was a great win for the 7s, which lifted us up 4 spaces in the league. Hopefully a high we can stay on again for next week.
